What damage can be done by frozen pipes?

We can’t get away from the snow and below freezing temps… with the impending weather the arctic chill this season. Frozen pipes and water damage is a serious threat to your home and businesses.

How to prevent damage

• When temps drop to teens or below let faucets drip  overnight to flow continually through pipes prevent freezing
• Leave cabinet doors open letting heat get to non-insulated pipes in exterior walls
• Insulate pipes in crawlspace or attic; this does not fully prevent freezing but it will take longer for freezing to occur
• Use an indoor valve shut off and drain water from pipes leading to outside faucets
• If you are going away for awhile, keep the heat in your home no lower than 55 degrees and ask a friend to check your home daily. Any temp below 60-55 degrees truly does not save you more money and can lead to more harm than good 
• Disconnect garden hoses when the sea-sons ends. If the faucet drips even a small amount, water will eventually fill the hose, the faucet, and move its way into the house. When the temperatures drop, that water will freeze and damage will most likely result.
